Re: " Event "
In Response To: Re: " Event " ()

No way! As an RC, Baptism has always been the actual pouring of the water over the head of the person, or immersion, plus the annointing with oils. My knowledge from childhood has allowed any person to Baptise in case of an emergency, i.e. fragility of a newly born, which because of availability would exclude the annointing with oils. Any later ceremony allows for this prior Baptism, but more importantly the welcoming into the community with offer of support to both parents and godparents (in the case of a child) or the person (in the case of an adult). So for clarification Brian under normal circumstances, Baptism involves the use of the words (I Baptise you...) and the Christening is the overall reception of the individual as a member of the faith (regardless of which denomination), and the registering of such event. The word "Christening" originates from the idea "making a Christian". Hope this summarises it for you.
