Re: Edmond Gellin
In Response To: Re: Edmond Gellin ()

With the clues all you Manx have contributed we, too have found additional pieces to the puzzle. This came today from a friend in Caldwell County, Texas:

I checked the cemetery inventory book that was done in 1969 and found in the Prairie Lea Cemetery inventory:

Gellin, Edmond, Mar. 24, 1824 on Ile of Man, died May 2, 1904 at Prairie Lea, Texas

Either Sherri and I completely overlooked the marker, or it became covered with dirt and grass
since the 1969 inventory.

I checked the 1900 census but didn't find a listing for Gellin, Gelling, Gellen or any other spelling for anywhere in Texas. That doesn't mean he isn't on the census.

The 1880 Caldwell County Census for Prec. 3 listed

Dwelling No. 183/family no. 183

Gelling, Edward White Male 54 Single farming born Isle of Man Father/Mother born Isle of Man

Haven't had time to check anything else. Will see what I can find at the library this morning

Peggy

Thanks for helping us Texans put the story together. Note that he is listed as "single" and we have no other Gellins or Gellings, yet. Where is his family?
