Hello:
In our effort to restore an old cemetery here in Texas we discovered the grave of Edmond Gellin. His monument is a 12-inch by 2-inch by 30-inch slab which had broken from its base, flattened into the soil and lost for many years. The inscription is as follows:
EDMOND GELLIN
BORN
MAR 24, 1824
ON ILE OF MAN
DIED
MAY 2, 1904
AT PRAIRIE LEA
TEXAS
DEAD BUT NOT
FORGOTTEN
Can you help us find any history on him and/or his family. So far we have not found him in the on-line geneological tools we have used. Is it possible the name is not spelled correctly? Obviously someone knew his exact birth date, so he must have had family or friends close enough to him here who would have known him. His marker was professionally finished, so someone had money enough and interest enough to have it made. Also, his grave is in the Prairie Lea Masonic Cemetery. This indicates that he may have been a Mason. Are there birth records available for 1824?
Thank you for any help you can offer.
