Hello Rob,
That IGI source you quote is a "Sealings for the dead". LDS Church members perform saving ordinances on behalf of their deceased ancestors. Some may have carefully researched their families, but others obviously have guessed, or wanted to include as many people as possible who might be connected to them - so those IGI entries are certainly not proof.
If you look at the extracted entry on the IGI for that John Cannell's bapt (extracted from the parish register), you will see that it is the same as I gave you from the Maughold parish register which has only John bapt 19 Aug 1712 son of John Cannell, with no other details - and Averil pointed out that there were two John Cannells who had arrived in Maughold at that time, and were having children baptised there.
As yet we have no proof of a connection between this John b.1712 Maughold and the John Cannell from Lonan who married Christiana Christian, nor do we know the name of the mother of John b.1712 (because two fathers John Cannell, and only one marriage in Maughold).
As previously mentioned, these wills could provide proof:
CANNELL, John 1741-2 Mau Epis decree, LDS film no. 0106376
CANNELL, John 1742-1 Mau Arch no.56, LDS film no. 0106218
