Re: Will of Patrick Cannell
In Response To: Re: Will of Patrick Cannell ()

Rob, please read my message at: http://www.isle-of-man.com/cgi-bin/interests/genealogy/bulletin/index.pl?noframes;read=522706

There was no John Cannell bapt 1681 in Maughold. The name presumably was a mistranscription for the bapt that year for John CANNAN - not CANNELL. As I wrote in that message, there were NO Cannells in the Maughold parish register bapts before 1700 except for a single entry (not John or Patrick) and it wasn't a common surname in Maughold.
Additionally the Cannells were not from Ballafayle Maughold until the marriage between Christiana Christian (the heiress of Ballafayle) and John Cannell from Lonan in 1741.

If this couple is your line, you need to be looking other than Maughold for John Cannell's origins. - Starting with Lonan where he came from at the time of the marriage.

If Patrick Cannell from a different parish left a will naming a son John of Maughold, you need a copy of this will. Where did this subject heading come from? Does Tim Davis have the will?
