I've described the IGI as a sow's ear constructed from a silken purse - only SLC could foul up the extremely accurate transcription of all parish registers done for civil purposes c. 1911 and which they were allowed to film in 1944 (these are the Parish Reg films - see manxnotebook under genealogy for film numbers).

However note they are established church records - around the 1820's there were presbyterian churches etc and although these records were also requested for civil purposes they are not in the IGI .

The actual parish registers are now mostly deposted in the Manx Museum whose long term intention I understand is to film them.
