I queried Daniel's marital status when he married Esther Christian as I have him marked up as having had a previous marriage to Ann Cowin in the Parish of Lonan. Daniel and Ann lived in Maughold and their four children were born there, the deaths of three of them are recorded there as well. Ann's burial is not recorded either there or in Lonan. The Daniel who married Esther Christian was widowed (again?) by the time of the 1841 census at Maughold, and that fits in with the Burial of Hester at Patrick in 1839. Her last child William Looney (my gt.grandfather) was born in 1835. His (third?) wife Widow Jane Crellin nee Corkill is recorded in the 1841 Census, and in 1851. Phillip Crellin only appears in 1851 and he was recorded as an apprentice Carpenter, presumably to his stepfather? The fact that Daniel and widow Jane married ,only 4 months, after the death of Esther nee Christian does not surprise me. In my wife's family virtually the same thing happened in 1802. No social services then! Comely widow with young children marries Self- employed widower also with young family - solves a lot of problems! My wife' s widowed three times great grandfather married her widowed three times great grandmother. The youngest son of 3x great grandad married the youngest daughter of 3x great grandma. Mind you I think that 3x gt grandma had a bit of cash.
I am still thinking about some of the other points raised in this correspondence in Particular the fact that at the wedding in Patrick Daniel was recorded as a batchelor of Maugold! That really queers the pitch!
