John Graham

Hello everyone.
My great great grandfather was John Graham (c1827). His last name was badly transcribed as "Greams" on some documents unfortunately. He was a colliery manager at Collins Green, Burtonwood, Warrington. However, wherever he appears on the censuses it says his place of birth was the Isle of Man. He was from a coal mining family and the rest of his siblings were born in Preston Quarter, St Bees, Cumberland (Elizabeth, Jane, Charles, Frances, James, Eleanor and Isabella) between 1832 and 1846.
I heard somewhere that coal was never mined on the island. It is fascinating that John should be born there, because his father was a coal miner too. His name was William Graham (c1801) from Borth. William married Eleanor Clague (1806) in Malew IOM on 12/08/1827. They must have had John on the island, then moved to Cumberland to raise the rest of their family. I wondered if anyone could suggest what work a coal miner might have done on the island in the early 1800's. If anyone can shed light on my Graham/Glague family at Malew IOM, then I would be grateful for that too.
Best wishes
David
