If the parents of John William Callow turn out to be William Callow and Sarah Callow, I have traced their family back a couple of generations on the IOM.
However on a previous discussion on this message board, there was mention of William Callow wearing some kind of uniform in a photo and it was suggested that he was a Douglas town overseer married to an Ann. Question to Frances. Did a town overseer wear a uniform such as worn by the market manager and the car inspectors and could this kind of uniform possibly be confused with a captain's uniform? (Apparently there was some folklore that he was a captain but he turned out to be listed as a labourer on the marriage certificate of his son).
On the IGI extracted data, there is a marriage of William Callow to Ann Radcliffe 12th July 1868. This marriage is a possibility for William Callow the town overseer. His first child, William was born circa 1870 in Douglas.
(By the way the 1901 census form definitely states that John William Callow was part of the crew of the "Prince of Wales" even though a history states that this battleship wasn't launched until 1902).
