CORLETT Re: visiting from USA
In Response To: Re: visiting from USA ()

Louise, Donna Douglass has kindly sorted out the two Margaret Corlett burials for us, from a Maughold M.I. This read "Maughold Old Yard
N 6: In loving memory of MARGARET wife of WILLIAM CORLETT of Ramsey who died April 26th 1894 aged 73 years / also the above named WILLIAM CORLETT who died July 11 1912 aged 97 years.... " etc.

We know from the 1891 census that Edwin's mother Margaret was a widow living with him, his family, and her brother Thomas Gill - so her husband William had died before the census date.

Which means that her burial was not the Ramsey one in 1894 (the above M.I.).
Edwin's mother was:
Margaret CORLETT 82 yrs. Corony, Maughold, buried 29 Apr 1900.
[Margaret Gill/Killey, daur of Thomas Killey & Margaret Cringall bapt. Maughold, 6 Jul 1817.]
And his father was:
William CORLETT 76 yrs. buried Maughold 25 Feb 1890
[probably William son of John Corlett & Mary Kissack, bapt. Parish Church Maughold 18 Jul 1813].

John Corlett & Mary Kissack married 11 Feb 1797, Maughold.

In the 1861 census Edwin is wrongly recorded as Edward - living at Corony:
3 6 Corony William CORLETT Head MAR 46 Labourer Maughold
3 6 Corony Margaret CORLETT Wife MAR 43 Maughold
3 6 Corony Elinor CORLETT Daughter 12 Maughold
3 6 Corony Thomas CORLETT Son 9 Maughold
3 6 Corony John CORLETT Son 7 Maughold
3 6 Corony James CORLETT Son 4 Maughold
3 6 Corony Edward CORLETT Son 2 Maughold

As also was Margaret's brother (living at Corony):
1861 census:
3 19 Corony Thomas GILL Head MAR 48 Tailor Maughold
3 19 Corony Isabella GILL Wife MAR 48 Maughold
