I am very grateful for all the replies I have received.

As my Thomas Cleator was married to an Elizabeth and the Thomas you discovered (son of Mary & Thomas) was married to someone else (who didn't die until 1899), unfortunately I don't think it ties up.

Never mind........but I was getting quite excited about that!

Also thanks to Sylvia. You are quite correct I think the most sensible thing to do is acquire a copy of their marriage certificate.

I did think about doing that, but when I started to order a certificate, on the Lancashire BMD site, they were requesting a "GDR" reference and I have no idea how to find out what that reference may be. So I abandoned my order.

I am a newbie to all this, as you can see! Any ideas where I can find out the GDR info required?
