James Boyd/Ellen Quiggin Warrensville Ohio
In Response To: Re: Quiggin genealogy ()

Phil,

I have been working on Manx immigrants to northeastern Ohio: I may have posted this before, but here is what I have compiled on James Boyd and family. I would very much appreciate your additons and corrections.

For a long time I was confused by the similarity of names in "your" Quuiggin family and that of Robert Quiggin/Catherine Cain of Newburg. (They also had Elizabeth and Ellen.)

Questions:
Do you have a date of immigration for the Quiggin siblings?

What became of John?

Did any other siblings immigrate?

Anyway, here is what I have on James Boyd:

James Boyd family of Warrensville

James Boyd, possibly the son of John Boyde, was born in the Isle of Man, about 1821, and died May 10, 1900, age 79. [Cleveland Public Library Necrology File : “Boyd-James, May 10, 1900 at 3:20 p. m., aged seventy-nine years. Funeral from his late residence in Warrensville Sunday, May 13, at 1 p.m. (standard time) Friends invited. 1821 - 1900. Highland Park Cemetery Warrensville, Ohio.”]

James married first, March 21, 1846, Catherine Corlett. She was born in 1819, and died in 1859, as a result of drowning in the farm well. Catherine had immigrated in 1845. [Genealogical Data Relating to Women in the Western Reserve before 1840 ( or born there before 1850), Collected and compiled by the Women’s Department, Cleveland Centennial Commision. FHL film 1009031. (Warrensville).]

James Boyd married second, March 30, 1861, Ann “Mulreagh” (Mylrea ?). She was born in 1822, and died in 1862.

James Boyd married third, October 25, 1862, Eleanor Quiggen, daughter of John and Catherine (Corlett) Quiggen. She was baptized at Kk Michael, February 30, 1836, and died September 21, 1902, age 66 yrs. [Cleveland Public Library Necrology File : “September 28, 1902; Boyd-Mrs. Ellen, widow of the late James Boyd, aged 66 years, at her home in Warrensville, O., Wednesday Sept. 21. Funeral from late residence, Sunday, Sept. 28, 12:30 standard.”]

James Boyd is probably the “James Boyde” who was naturalized November 1, 1852, arrived June 1842. [Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, p. 192.] James Boyd lived in Warrensville.
