Re: Allan Gorry & Alice Kermode

Hello Brian, Hello Francis

Thanks for confirming my impression of an anomaly 1861 and 1871 censuses, though I have to admit that I thought the dob and not the name for Thomas was 'wrong'.

I have now adopted the following as the best fit scenario for now:

1835 Thomas Gorry(Gorrey) and Mary Kaighin marry.
1835 In same year Eliza Gorry(Gorrey) born.
1837 ThomasOne Gorry(Gorrey) born.
1839 Henry Gorry(Gorrey) born.
1843 Joseph Gorry(Correy) born.
1845 ThomasOne dies aged 8.
1846 ThomasTwo born.

1847 ThomasTwo dies aged 1yr 9 mnths
1949 ThomasThree born

1851 Dec ThomasThree dies aged 2.
1853 Allan Gorry(Allen Gorrey) born.

1861 Census Allan appears as Thomas A.
1871 Census Allan appears as Thomas only
1881,1891,1901 Censuses Allan reverts to Allan only.

In this scenario mum and dad are desperate for a son named Thomas but fate cruelly denies them. Oh dear!

Frances
You say Thomas senior was a fisherman but in censuses he is described as a mariner or Mary described as a mariner's wife. How are the two jobs differentiated?

Thanks for helping me clarify my thoughts on the above. Have you any thoughts on which Alice Kermode married Allan, where/when they were married, and where, in 1886/7 Catherine was born?

regards

Alan Gorry

ps: I think I was meant to be named Allan, and thats how I spelt until I looked at my birth cert. when I was 18 years old. Another mistake?
