My grandfather Allan Gorry was one of the children of Thomas Gorry(Gorrey) b 1810 & Mary Kaighin b 1814.
He was born in Peel in 1853. and in about 1886 married Alice Kermode, b c1866, presumably in the Isle of Man. I have extrapolated the date of marriage from the dob, c1867, of their first child Catherine.
Catherine was born in the Isle of Man but their other six children were born in Liverpool.
He does not appear in the 1861 and 1871 IoM censuses. In the 1881 IoM census he was at the home of his brother-in-law William Crowe, single, and a tailor. He appears in the 1891 & 1901 England census as head of his own houselhold in Liverpool. In 1891 & 1901 his surname is mistranscribed as 'Garry'.
His son George, my father, was married in 1922 and the marr.cert states that Allan was deceased.
Is there anyone out there who can answer the following questions:
1. How come he doesnt appear in the 1861 and 1871 censuses as held by anc.com?
2. Which Alice Kermode was his wife?
3. Where/when were they married?
4. Where, in the IoM, was Catherine born?
The IoM Registry is unable to pinpoint the marriage date/place nor can they locate the information for Catherine's birt cert.
Sorry to be so wordy but hopeful somebody may have answers - even partial ones.
regards
Alan Gorry
