Further on copyright
I appreciate your position, and have a reasonable understanding of the copyright law... yes I agree that the position with copyright is a minefield and where necessary, when I need to, I attempt to seek permission for useage of any material as you know.
There is a category in some published areas which is a little confusing where it states that material cannot be used except in situations of non-profit, educational or personal useage.
This can leave material being open to abuse of privilege, so I find it still wise to seek permission.
I am also considering other people's useage of my own material here as well as my being the user of other's people's such as your's.
I had a whole chapter of my Qualtrough book uplifted word for word and published as part of an historical article in a NZ magazine in the 1990s with no acknowledgement of source, let alone the seeking permission of useage.
In the end as you say the "little" person just has to largely wear situations like that, as once the deed is done, apart from seeking a published apology from the magazine publisher, there was no other redress as the author was an amateur historian like ourselves.
