I could't agree more with what has been said. My view is that printing and selling copies of publications for a small paper "profit" and restricting availability of back numbers over 2 years old is pretty pointless. We are relying on volunteers ferrying back and forth to copying shops, dealing with mailing, cheques. Once the oppportunity cost of their time is costed in all these operations are very costly.
According to surveys, the majority of family historians are now connected to the web.
I did my best to put these matters to the Committee but obviously I have served my time + am no longer on the Committee & my opinion & wishes count for nothing.
I think a problem may be that there has been a complete disregard for copyright issues and that strictly any article published in the Journal remains copyright of the author NOT of the Society prior clearance should have been obtained.
Although I disagree with their decision, the only way to overturn it is to place a resolution on the agenda for the AGM and rally enough support to carry a vote. However there must be consideration given to copyright.
I suggest that somehow we organise a "virtual petition" or questionnaire on which current FHS members could register their views.
If this is in favour of co-operating with Manx Notebook then I am willing to move the resolution at the AGM.
