Re: Naming patterns... specifically Joseph in 1740

A log, online, or with IOMFHS archives of unusual names would be a good idea. It could also cross check with 'event' names, which could spawn further research.

I have often seen names like Sylvester, and Ceasar in the records for certain families - in fact did not one little Ceasar appear in a recent lifestyle swap reality TV programme, with the Kelly family?

From my own family point of view, the name Alma appears, shortly after the Battle of Alma, as a male name. And has carried on. However, I have noticed from time to time, other male Almas, particularly on the headstones up at the Borough! There is a well known local Inkerman also. There must be many incidents where these 'battle' or 'event' names appear, and reappear, perhaps with a legend.

I have found a list for the Battle of Alma, in a seach some while ago. However, no Manx Man show!

Any ideas you guys who study the military, etc?
