Re: Naming patterns... specifically Joseph in 1740

Yes Nigel, I agree that the name Joseph is particularly rare in 1743, hence my query and why it was in this particular family I don't know at this point I do not know the parentage of Joseph's father William Qualtrough who appears to be a stray Wm with no identity., and the fact he died intestate in 1782 is a little disconcerting. Yet he married Christian Taylor in 1737, a daughter of the Ballaqueena Taylors, (father Richard Taylor) and whose mother was Ann Kelley of the Ballachurry Kelley's.

I am hoping the name Joseph MAY be a way of finding out who William's parents were. But some road-blocks are such that only a strong chisel will help one get the break through.

Oh well......... persistence is the answer.
