I have just been reading Brian Mylchreest's book on "The Diamond King", Joe Mylchreest who went to Kimberley SA, to mine diamonds and apparently quite a few young men from Peel area went there on his suggestion about the 1880s. Some returned to the Island according to Brian, but some stayed.

More I do not know.
