This is something I have also noticed. I know of one Creer family who emigrated to Kimberley SA around 1896 and who I am in touch with - but this family had been living in England for about 70 years. There was a group of Manx volunteers (the Noble Nine) if I remember right who went out to fight in the Boer war (see France Coakley's website) - and some of them I believe remained there. But there was some sort of Manx community in SA before them also. I have also spotted a Creer Road in Durban! More than this I do not know.
