I have seen a number of mainland marriage certificates and there are cases where the deceased father's occupation is noted but not the fact that he was deceased.
If what follows has any bearing, John woud have been born around 1785 and aged 63 at the time of Sarah's marriage.
Sarah Creer (christened July 26 1826) appears to be the daughter of John Creer and Sarah Taggart.
A Sarah Creer, alias Taggart, is in Brian Lawson's burial register in Braddan Aug 15 1826.
John & Sarah had other children incluing a son, Paul, who was born in 1818. He is the only Paul Creer who appears on the IGI between 1810 and 1830.
In the 1841 census, Sarah Creer age 14 is living in German. There are no other Creers at this address.
At a different address in German, one finds a John Creer age 55 (i.e between 55 and 60 as adult's ages were rounded down to the next multiple of 5.), Elizabeth age 45, Paul age 20, Elizabeth age 8, Elizabeth Ann age 14 and Jane age 22. It is pssible that this is the same John and that his daughter Sarah was living at another house (relatives? as a servant?).
It is possible that John remarried (Elizabeth Cosnahan February 8 1827?)
However, I cannot find this John & Elizabeth Creer in the IOM 1851 census, nor do I find a probable IOM burial entry for either. One possibility is that thay left the island after the 1841 census.
