I have been reading this thread with fascination, Ian Killip has been helping me out re my gggg grandmother Eleanor Killip who had a shop at 16 Strand St 1863. Indeed the description Frances has given from the 1936 photo matches a modern picture Ian has just sent me of No.12.
How old would that building be? were there substantial buildings in Strand St in 1863?
Any more information/photos would be most appreciated, although already the subject has been well posted. Eleanor's husband Thomas had a shoemakers shop in Duke St (don't know where) but that's another investigation again.
I live in New Zealand along with a whole clan of Killip's related back to Eleanor, my lot sailed to NZ in 1876 from Liverpool.
This is a great board, many thanks especially to Ian Killip who has helped me out immensly.
