Hi Sue,
Thank you for your reply. The answers to your questions are below.
1. What was the name of his mother in the birth record of James C Radcliffe in 1814?:
There was no mother who arrived with the family in 1827 on the ship Casanda (sic): the 3 who arrived together are: James 42yo, James C 14yo and Ann 9yo. All have the last name Radcliffe.
There was a Jane Lace who married a James Radcliffe in Liverpool in 1803 who returned to the IOM and had a son William Radcliffe in 1805 and a son James Charles in 1810. I cannot find a record of a baptism for an Ann to this couple, but perhaps the record is missing. I don't know if this is my family. And if they were my family, that still doesn't tell me who the parents of James Radcliffe were.
2. What were the names of the ships you mentioned in 1783, 1814, and 1819?
These dates were not ships, but birth years calculated from the manifest of the ship Casanda (sic) which arrived in 1827:
1783 is the calculated birthdate of the (presumed) father James Radcliffe
1814 is the calculated birthdate of James C Radcliffe's
1819 is the calculated birthdate of Ann Radcliffe
Casanda (sic) is the only ship that I could find that I thought may have brought my ancestors to the US
3. What record showed that his father James Radcliffe was born in the IOM?
The only record that indicates James Radcliffe was from the IOM is his obituary published in Richmond Whig and Public Advertiser, Richmond, Virginia on Tuesday, October 6, 1846. The obit says, "he was a native of the Isle of Man". This is on accordance with oral history passed down through multiple branches of the family.
Thank you for your help with this difficult problem.
Lillian
