Thanks for going to all this effort. It just doesn't seem quiet right tome. Although we know there were mixed marriages along family tree (and everyone was very relaxed about this) I find it unlikely that the family would have changed from Protestant to Catholic (it's normally the other way around) and would expect the Husband's religion to be the official religion of the family. So if my grandfather was a catholic surely his father and grandfather were too???
Also, we have a family fable that James went back to Ireland to marry the girl he loved. When he got there he was told that she was already married so he turned around and went back home to the Isle of man. If this is true then I also find it hard to believe that he would have married a 15 year old girl on his return. But perhaps the story relates to his son?
I'd be grateful for any help you can give me.
