Hi Col
I'm so sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I realised you had replied but didn't realise the effort you had gone to. I have an 8 month old baby and work full time so I don't always get to my emails at weekends but I have been thinking about this a great deal and really appreciate your help.
I think its this record below which you found because I'm quiet sure his son (James is my great grandfather) and this is similar to what I found on ancestory.com. But I can't find where James Stuart of Onchan came from. I think he may have been born in 1846 but I have no birth certificate. My dad thinks he may have come from Ireland (perhaps what is now Northern Ireland - Warren Point). But we aren't sure. The trail goes cold past this point and I'm really stuck. Who was, he and where did he come from? This is the link to our past which goes beyond living memory. If we can find out who James Stuart Born 1846 was we may know where we all came from.
We think he may have started the Island's first taxi cab company and I had hoped this might lead to more information about him but it's just a family story my dad was told by his grandfather.
