2ndly the Quakers at this period were totally different from today's pacifists - they were strong republicans who in 1659/1660 were part of a military attempt to form a repulic in IoM (some of this is covered in a recent article, somewhat partisan, by John Callow in current issue of "Isle of Man Studies" pub by IoMNHASoc - this and Bishop Barrow's previous treatment at hands of puritan 'extremists' helps explain the treatment meted out when the Stanleys regained control in 1660/1.
