Re: Kewley of Kerro Doo or Black Qtr, Onchan

Eric
Thank you for your reply and as I expected it raised more questions.
Eg. Who exactly was the Gilbert Kewley who had a child christened in Lonan (adjacent Onchan) in 1719?
So although I appreciate your efforts it did not help me and I cannot add anything useful.
I have looked at Gilbert Kewleys known children from 1726 with fathers name only entered when christened.(common practice)
Also the images for Anne Clarks marriage and below with John Kewleys presumed signature etc.
We do not know any of Jonys siblings without more clues.
(Thomas is the second most common name for boys and Marg‘t/Margaret etc is the most common for girls)
My last line was from the image on family search which I have also known about for some time.
Basically the site is just a rehash of the microfiche produced by the LDS in March 1992 with all its faults.
(eg. They added patron submitted entries, duplicated many others and lumped the Cowleys and Kewleys together.)
The text entry for Jony’s marriage was on page 1765 of the microfiche.
They started adding free images of events to the web in Nov. 2011 when their representative returned to America
This was after filming in Douglas I.O.M. for the imuseum launch later.
In case you do not know “Curlet(t)/Corlet(t) etc has been the second most commonly used of the manx (C,K, Q) surnames and your nemesis “John” the third most commonly used boys name.
So through intermarriage they both appear ad nauseam on most decent sized manx family trees.
The late Brian Lawson merely indexed the particular wills you mention and as far as I know the full transcription for Jony, which I advise, does not yet appear on either Jim Smiths or Ian Radcliffes host sites.
As all true blood Corlett’s are loosely related you may yet find your link for Kewley and I wish you luck.
Peter.
