Frances, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
I have been looking high and low trying to find a document that shows exactly when and from whom the Looney family acquired Ballagilley there in Maughold Parish. You probably know that there are some descendants of Robert Looney who went to America prior to 1724 and they want to claim that Robert Looney was born on Ballagilley Farm. There have been some of these descendants who over the years have traveled to the Isle of Man in order to visit their ancestorial origins. They visit the Maughold Parish Church and Cemetery looking for memorials to their ancestors and they visit the farm house that is located on the far south west corner of Ballagilly thinking that this is where their ancestor, Robert Looney was born and raised.
Based on the records that you have shared with us, we now know that the Looney family did not acquire any part of Ballagilley up until at least 1752, long after Robert Looney had already gone to America.
You don't by any chance know of a good map of Maughold Parish that shows the shapes and locations for the farm, Intack, etc names do you? In 2013 I purchased a copy of the MNB CD and it has some good maps, but so far I have not found a map that really shows all of the names or shapes.
