In the IGI I found the marriage of William W Watterson to Laura Megarvey on 23rd Nov 1893 in Cuyahoga, Ohio. Unfortunately, the wording of the official entry doesn’t use the words bachelor/spinster/widower/widow------just “is of the age of not less than 21 years and has no wife living”.

He produced a nice signature which you could compare with the signature of the Wm Watterson who married Catherine Fick. But my hunch is that it’s a different Wm Watterson because of lack of a middle name initial W at the 1884 marriage.
