Hi Sarah Malone
Captain James Martin is my Great Grandfather. He was father to my Grandmother - Birtha Vistcata Gaynor nee Martin.
Family history has the story as follows - He was due to retire and was asked by his shipping company to take one last cargo to America. The ship was wrecked and his body washed up on the coast of Southern Ireland where he was given a good Christian burial by the local people. My Great Grandmother chose not to have his body repatriated but did pay to have a respectable headstone placed on his grave.
As my father married a Wexford girl I have visited his grave in Kilmuckridge to pay my respects. Of course he is buried in the Protestant part of the cemetary.
I attach a photograph of my Grandfather - R H Gaynor with my Grandmother B V Gaynor nee Martin
