The sting is however in the tail - Nicholas Boscow + son Arthur would appear to have been embezzling money from the IoM Building Society (a strange consortium set up in 1836 to develop the Castle Mona estate) from about 1838 - Boscow had I think got himself overexposed in his various trading commitments eg a new steam mill + bakery and his commitments got on top of him at the end of 1841 - he put his own property up for sale but then quickly left the Island leaving behind a series of court cases that dragged on for many years. I can find no link between him and the Mormons until he surfaced in the USA - he would appear to have been a trustee of the Presbyterian church in Ramsey and I think tho some more work needed that what is now known as Quine's hall in Ramsey was buit on land left by his Quine grandparents - he was however interested in theology as the sale of his house contents included many books on theology. There was quite a bitter letter about him in the Manx press sometime after his departure noting that his activies had probably brought about the collapse of the IoM Joint Stock bank which caused some misery in the early 1840's tho I suspect there were many others also with their fingers in the tills there.
