Hi Anne , Frances is right of course , the tradition is not set in stone , although from my research , the Manx followed it even more than the Scots , who also had this tradition , My Scottish parents followed the tradition even in the 1920's and 1930's in Australia .
But remember William Hughes no doubt has roots in Wales , no sure if the Welsh used that naming system , but the English did not.
So Williams father could be Robert , and Eleanor Clucas could have mother Eleanor
