Re: Moore
In Response To: Re: Moore ()

Yes, it was very interesting to read about Robert Stephen Moore’s migration and Australian history in the magazine. My attempt at explaining why RS Moore says his mother’s name was Margaret is based on the fact that she died when he was only three, when he could have been too young to have known her first name himself – maybe his sister Margaret Jane was later said to have been named after their mother, meaning her middle name, but as he knew her as Margaret assumed that is what was meant. Just guessing, here.

I didn’t know anything about the cousin’s daughter either – presumably born too late for Brian Lawson’s index!

It is confusing with so many Roberts, but RS Moore was Elizabeth (Moore) Cavendish’s nephew, the son of her brother Robert who went to America.

The siblings Elizabeth, William and Robert Moore from German seem to be children of Thomas Moore & Eleanor Kneen:

(4) William & Eleanor’s son Robert b.1861 married his cousin Margaret, RS Moore’s sister:

They had at least one child:
MOORE, Robert William 1 Jul 1900 Dou s/o MOORE, Robert & MOORE, Margaret [Lawson]

No wonder it’s confusing – Robert’s uncle Robert had a son Robert (Stephen) - and a daughter Margaret, whom he married!
