Hi Averil,
Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate your help. Hope you haven't been affected by the earthquake and your family / friends were ok. I have lived in the Wellington region for 30 years + so it can be difficult to access valid information from here. Currently I'm working on "Millars" from County Down, Northern Ireland and use every piece of information I can get. The Irish census papers were destroyed pre 1901 and 1911, and of course births were not required to be registered until 1864. The IOM records are fantastic and it's been pretty easy to trace back the births, marriages and deaths. The only problem I have is I then start researching all the siblings, marriage partners etc which becomes mayhem. Amazing how one family can generate so many offspring within two or three generations.
Regards
Frank Millar
