Re: Ballakelly Radcliffe family
In Response To: Re: Radcliffe family ()

Hi Claudia,
It is not a Radcliffe of Andreas book, but an article, which is why you would usually need to buy a photocopy from the Manx Museum Library and fill in a copyright form. [‘The Radcliffes of Andreas’ by Constance Radcliffe. Isle of Man Natural History & Antiquarian Society, vol VIII no.2.]

The Gedcom file looks like the one written by Carol Gosselin (on this BB), but I can't get into the Gedcom section at the moment to double-check this. There are three of us researching Radcliffe in Andreas, and have the families fairly well sorted out, although it would be confusing to try to jump in at the middle (so many "same-name" Radcliffes). - Work your way back, one generation at a time, which you should be able to do with the help of Carol's Gedcom.

I don't remember what Carol wrote about the Radcliffes in the 1500s and 1600s, but there are very few verifiable dates at that time, and our interest is mainly in the Andreas ones rather than who and when they left England. You have become confused because instead of working your way back you have tried to link in people from books and articles on Manx Notebook without first finding out whether they have any relevance to your direct ancestors. Carol would have put notes for her sources.

I have the first known Andreas ones as
1. John RATCLIFF, Ballaratcliff
2. The two sons of John Ratcliff, Ballaratcliff:

i John RATCLIFF, coroner, Ballaratcliff, b.c.1575

ii William RATCLIFF, of Ballakelly, b.c.1580 (in other words, the first Ratcliff/Radcliffe found entered for Ballakelly in land records).
