Is it possible that the age at burial for Samuel Herrick Surplice was 80???
Welles did not have a Samuel as a brother but if the age could have been written badly and was in fact 80 then this would be his father.
I can find no trace of Samuel after the 1861 census for England and have speculated that he went to Australia where a Herrick Surplice name combination has shown up.
