Thank you for all the information you are providing for me. I will pass on the information about our origins, and that the "Legend" was just that, to the rest of my family.
My grandfather used to have hand written stories and letters written to to the Teares in the US
from the family on the Isle of Man. Unfortunately, the cousin who got all of that was a minister and moved a lot, so he threw it all away. Fortunately, Grandpa split up his information. because I got the other half. Here are the notes and letter excerpts that were included with the part I got.
William Teare (1818)
William Teare was born on a farm near Douglas, Isle of Man. He came to America in 1840. He married Esther Quirk (born in Lisayre Kar, Isle of Man in 1819) one year later in Rochester, New York. They Settled in Celedonia, NY where he ran a shoe shop. In 1856 they traveled by ox team through what is now Chicago into Wisconsin to homestead 40 acres near Beldenville close to Elsworth and conducted an "Inn". In 1862, they bought a farm, 160 acres, at "Big River" where he died in 1890 and she died in 1898. The "Big River" Post office no longer exists. He went back to the Isle of Man for a visit in 1874
