The following I have culled from these posts:
Robert Gelling (died Jan. 1807) married Jane Kelley 9/22/1770 in Braddan. There was mentioned the name Ballamillaghyn which I assume is a town in IOM.
Their son, John Gelling (b. 1770, baptised 8/25/1771 in Marown) married Elinor Crellin at Braddan on 2/13/1798.
Their son, Robert Gelling, was born 1807 (my family has the date 3/17/1809) Douglas, IOM. He married Catherine Caine on 11/4/1843. Catherine was born 11/29/1812, IOM. They joined Robert's brother John and sister Ellen in Illinois, U.S We show that there was another brother, William, that married Jane Caine. No further information.
From this point on, I've used family history. These posts indicate 4 children, my family's history notes 5 children.
Thomas Gelling was born in 1842, IOM. No further info. Robert W., Jr. was born 5/22/1847, Douglas. He died 12/17/1937 in Springfield, Illinois. Shows no spouse or children.
Phillip Cain Gelling (my great-grandfather) born 12/28/1849, Douglas. He married Elizabeth J. Johnson on 11/24/1887 in Ellendale, North Dakota, U.S. He died 8/30/1919 in South Dakota.
Elizebeth Johnson was born 6/30/1867 in Massachussets, U.S. She died in 1945 at age 78 in South Dakota. Elizebeth's parents were William S. Johnson, b. 9/1842 in England. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1863 at the age of 21. He married Elizebeth Buckley in Lawrence, Massachussets. She died in 1889 in Minnesota. In addition to daughter Elizebeth, they had son William Joseph Johnson who died in 1929 in Minnesota. He married Rose Moldner. No children mentioned. They also had daughter, Magretia J. Johnson, b. 3/7/1878 in Minnesota. She married Ezra A. Martin in Wisconsin and died 1/4/1946 in Warmsprings, Montana. Magretia and Ezra had two chidren, Ruth Martin who died in 1907 as a child. My family's records indicate the other child is living and so no information divulged.
The fourth child to Robert Gelling and Catherine Caine was Elenor Gelling, b. 1851 on the IOM. Alternative births are 8/5/1848 and the year 1849. She married John S. Eakel in 1880 at the age of 29 in Illinois. John S. Eakel was born in 1851 in Illinois. There children were Gertie Eakel who was born in 1875 and died in 1889, both in Illinois. The other child was Georgia Eakel, born in 1878 and died in 1880 at the age of 2 in Illinois.
The 5th, and last, child of Robert Gelling and Catherine Caine was Easter Isabelle Gelling. She was born 3/7/1855 in Douglas. Her christening was 4/9/1855 at Baldwin St. Lukes, IOM. She married Thomas James Caine on 4/13/1898 in Illinois. Their children were: Earl, Edith, May, Olive, and Pearl. No further information on any of them.
