Hang on a minute, Ann. I am going to muddy the waters a little.
Thomas and Ellen married at Andreas 1862 November 30th. Ellen was a minor living in Andreas, the daughter of John Kneale, labourer.
Can anyone find this family in 1861, say?
Ellen would be the Ellen Joughin whose death was registered in the December quarter of 1900 in the Whitehaven registration district. She was aged 53, so she managed to age only 4 years since the 1891 census, but I am sure that this is the same person.
As for Bride versus Andreas, it’s a borderline case. Thomas and Ellen were living in Ramsey when they had their eldest, Thomas, baptised there in 1863. Their five remaining children (including John James, 1872) were all baptised at Bride from 1864-1872, although they were living at Ballacorey, Andreas throughout that period. Ballacorey is very close to the parish boundary with Bride, but Andreas is the closer church by road. I could not say why they chose to have their children baptised at Bride.
I can help you with the ancestry of Thomas Joughin, and some of Thomas and Ellen’s descendants. Which of those six children do you descend from? If you would rather continue off the board, please contact me on pjallen at btinternet dot com, making the usual adjustments.
