Sylvia,
Thank you so much for all this information and your efforts, time and expertise.
I do have all the Whitehaven information but had been unable, to trace the family in the 1871 Census – probably due, as you point out, to Ancestry having them as “Loughin.” I would never have been able to make that connection myself.
Ellen’s mother, Ann Vondy, was married to James Kneale in Bride so it could quite easily follow that Ellen might be baptised there. But, if she was born elsewhere how would I find where – are there records of birth in IOM? (I live in England so am unfamiliar with IOM)
I have Ellen Kneale before her marriage in 1851 IOM Census:
James Kneale 52yrs b.Bride Farmer with 15 acres
Ann Kneale 38yrs b. Bride
James Kneale 12yrs b. Bride
William Kneale 10yrs b. Bride
Ellen Kneale 8yrs b. Bride
I am sure this is Ellen’s birth family yet it states her place of birth as Bride and not Andreas as in the 1871 Census. Is there any possible explanation for this? Maybe a simple error on the part of whoever completed the 1871 census form? Or another simple explanation maybe?
Ellen Kneale is my 3xgr.grandmother so I am keen to be completely certain if possible.
I am interested to read of the ancestry of the name “Joughin” and will try and read it up.
I was also interested to learn of the “Brian’s List” that you mentioned – I have not heard of this before and am wondering if it is a list that I am able to access or is it a private list?
I have learned so much from your response and am very grateful for all your help.
Ann
