Thanks Len but the Robert Edward Craine who married Eliza Frances Despard is his father, the surgeon marrying for the second time. (His first wife having died in 1856) He and Eliza have three little girls, who all die very young. The surgeon himself dies 6 months after his last daughter dies and his wife dies 2 months later in 1869.
Robert Edward junior is nowhere around in 1871 but as you say, there is a Robert Craine b1843 in the 1881 census - publican of the Lancashire House. My concern over this is that it says he was born in Braddan while mine is registered at Onchan. I know they are not that far apart but link to different churches?
