Now that we know that Mary Ann Fernback's mother was Irish, I've been wondering whether it's possible that Henry Gawne may have been an Irish fisherman rather than a Manxman.

Do you happen to know what religion your g grandparents, Mary Ann Kerwin and William Henry Gawne, had --- were they Catholic ? If so, that might strengthen the case for their Gawne line to have been Irish. If the Henry Gawne / Margaret Gell and son Edward Gawne combination were your family, I'd have guessed that they would have been Methodists, especially coming from Rushen parish which I think someone described on this message board as "a hotbed of Methodism."
