Jean, somewhere on this thread you were asking about Scottish records (to help Jacqueline). I'm answering it here in an attempt to bring the thread into view again.
If you'd like to follow up your suggestions for yourself (and if anyone else is interested), there is currently an offer of free credits at ScotlandsPeople - a web site of the Scottish government, where you get parish register entries, censuses, wills, etc.
Go to: www.ancestralscotland.com/roots/ and follow the instructions to fill in the form. Note this is "Ancestral Scotland", not ScotlandsPeople, who are making the offer. You'll be sent an email with a voucher for 30 credits to use on ScotlandsPeople (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/).
This offer ends on 28 February 2010, and the voucher for the credits is valid for 12 months.
This is what I would like to see for IOM records - it has been hugely successful financially for Scotland, and a big boost for tourism - as you can see from this offer.
