This posting should perhaps go under one of the other Skillicorn messages but which one?
So I have started a new one.
I have recently come into some information about two brothers called George William and James Edward Skillicorn, born April 8 1893 and June 4 1895 respectively. Geo. Wm and James E. were sent by Barnardo's to Canada on the SS Dominion on August 2 1906 to Quebec - found on Passenger Listings.
I have found them -I believe - in the 1901 census in Gateshead but showing as being born in Douglas, IOM. Parents are shown as Wm and Lydia Skillicorn (nee Ollier(?)) marriage in IOMFH BL's DB. Wm is shown as being born in Douglas and Lydia in Cheshire, aged 37 and 29 respectively. There were two younger children also in the census. It can be assumed, at this stage anyway, that the parent(s) died and the boys 'sent away' but what happened to the girls aged four and one - born in IOM and Durham again respectively? This family seemed to have braved the waves passing between the IOM and the mainland. I can find no further information on any of them apart from the two boys.
Any help would be most appreciated to confirm their parentage and why they were sent to Canada.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.
