I've searched fruitlessly several times for Richard Costain's baptism in the IGI. In all the censuses from 1861 onwards, he's absolutely consistent about his age----22, 32, 42, 52 and 62. This suggests a birth year of 1838 / 1839, so it's possible that he was born before his parents' marriage in Jan 1839.

At his death, his age is given as 63 in Sep Q 1902.
