The Ellis Island Records show a James Vannan leaving Glasgow in March 1910 on the SS California. He was aiming for his sisters house in Youngstown Ohio. Her name by now was Mary Laverock. He gave his next of kin as his wife Sarah Vannan in Crossburn St. Glasgow.

In early July 1910 Sarah Vannan and her daughter Sarah age 3 left Glasgow to meet up with her husband in N. Garland Avenue Youngstown. She gave her leaving address as her mothers Mrs McEwan in Crossburn Street Glasgow.
