A large crane can be seen at work on the breakwater on St Patrick's Island, thus could be 1891 but more likely 1895/7 when breakwater was extended.

Shows the ferry operating across the harbour; at low tide a walkway on wheels was used as a footbridge.

Photograph dates between 1891 to 1895 when the breakwater was further extended.

Photograph probably dates from c.1891, the access road to the castle is built, just visible (on larger image) is what appears the large 'goliath' crane, as well as the smaller erection crane, used to construct the breakwater in 1891. It was futher extended by 400 feet between 1895 to 1897.
