Groudle Glen was opened in 1893.
Minature Railway, Groudle Glen, near DouglasThe minature 2 foot gauge railway opened in 1896 - this was the first loco ordered, called Sea Lion, distinguishable from its 1906 companion, Polar Bear, by having round lookouts rather than rectangular. When the railway closed, this engine and some of the original carriages, landed up at Amberley Chalk Pit museum where it is currently in operation, though it revisted the Island for the centenary. |
