[From Manx Soc vol 16]

SHENN ARRANE GHAELGAGH ER
MYLECHARAINE.

THIS Manx version has been furnished me by a very aged person, who considers it to be the original of this song, and which is here given in the form of dialogue. It will be observed there is some little difference to the translation made by Mr. Borrow, no doubt taken from another version, of which there are several. I have one by Mr. Robert Gawne of Douglas in 1837, with some slight alterations, containing nine verses, and another printed as a broadside in 14 verses, in Manx and English, the latter by Mr. Thomas Shimrnin a self-styled "Manx Poet" to which he appears to have added several verses of his own composition.
