[from Manx Soc vol 14 ]
" O human life ! how mutable, how vain !
How thy Ride sorrows circumscribe thy joy-
A sunny island in a stormy main,
A spot of azure in a cloudy sky."

Here, friend, is little Daniel's tomb, To Joseph's years he did arrive; Sloth killing thousands in their bloom, While labor kept poor Dan alive. How strange, yet true, full seventy years was his wife happy in her Tears. Note. This person was a native of Kirk Andreas, and was latterly a vagrant. Sir Wadsworth Busk erected the stone, and wrote the verses. It is generally thought he was really older than 110. |
